Substance Use Disorder Treatment
The Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act (H.R. 2483) passed the House by a 366-57 vote on June 4. The bill would, among other things, reauthorize grant programs supporting the substance use disorder (SUD) provider workforce, take measures to increase access to addiction treatment services, require the review of scheduling for products containing buprenorphine and naloxone, and support various programs for opioid use disorder recovery. In addition, the bill would add additional providers and accreditors for the eight-hour controlled substance prescribing education requirement to maintain DEA registration. The bill would also reauthorize the Comprehensive Addiction Recovery through Effective Employment and Reentry (CAREER) Act, which funds programs aiming to support individuals recovering from substance use disorders by connecting them to employment opportunities, educational programs, and other necessary recovery support services, such as case management services, peer support, housing assistance, and the development of personal and financial literacy skills.
