NASCSA Webinar : Pharmaceutical Homicide: Do We Need a New Category of Controlled Substances?

March 11, 2025 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Medications are being used as murder weapons in hospitals and in community settings by criminals who think they can get away with the “perfect crime.” • Pharmaceutical homicide has been labeled as a “patient safety orphan” because the drugs used as murder weapons are generally not subject to highly controlled access and they can slip through the cracks of pharmacy and regulatory oversight. • Patient safety advocates have begun to discuss possible inclusion within the restrictive framework of controlled substance distribution those medications that are repeatedly used as murder weapons.
