Recent Service Disruption: April 24 – 29, 2025Dear DEA Registrant: Earlier this week, we experienced an IT service disruption. The service disruption began on Thursday evening, April 24, 2025, with a scheduled outage; it lasted until approximately 9:00 pm on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. We regret any impact this may have caused on your business operations to include your ability to apply for (or modify/renew) your DEA registration, your ability to file various reports required by regulation (e.g. ARCOS, suspicious orders reports, theft/loss reports), your ability to obtain credentials and/or file reports relating to electronic orders as part of the Controlled Substances Ordering System (CSOS), and finally, your ability to contact the Diversion Control Division Help Desk. The cause of disruption was a managed migration of servers, storage, and network infrastructure, which is an important step on our way to a secure cloud environment. While the duration of the planned outage was longer than anticipated, the migration of these elements will ultimately enhance our agility and adaptability; improve performance, reliability, and security; and assist in managing the costs of vital, optimized information technology environments. We recognize the integral role that DEA’s data systems play in facilitating legitimate commerce with controlled substances and listed chemicals. We regret that unanticipated challenges faced during this migration temporarily impacted your important work delivering healthcare to our citizens. We are committed to providing better communication about future changes to our information technology systems, and how those changes will affect your work. Also, please know that on May 14, 2025, we will relocate our print shop. As a result, operations related to the receipt, printing, and distribution of various forms – such as the U.S. Official Order Form (DEA Form 222), CMEA Self-Certification Compliance Certificate (DEA Form 598), and Chain Pharmacy Controlled Substance Registration Certificate (DEA Form 223) will be temporarily affected. While the relocation has been planned for the weekend and is expected for no longer than three days (through May 16, 2025), we are encouraging all registrants to review the number DEA Form 222 or other related forms which you have on hand and consider placing an order NLT Wednesday May 9, 2025, to avoid any disruption.
